Chocolate Eggs And Strife

Yesterday I mentioned that August of 1990 was not a good month for my father, what with his capture and imprisonment by Iraqis and his subsequent escape to freedom.  "They tried to kill my father, man!"  So, GW and I have that in common.  What I didn't tell you is that my father loathes the current occupation of Iraq because the United States took one tiny mess and turned it into a much larger and unmanageable one.  When chided by my brother that he should have rejoiced when the leader of his captors was executed, my father simply replied, "Of what use was killing him if it will only create more hostages and more pain?  Just because I suffered doesn't mean others have to."  Dad's right - in the name of the past and present, we murder the future.

And we do it so well on our own.  Who needs to blame terrorists when we shoot the nation in its foot every single day?

Levin: Senate Will Keep Paying For Iraq

Michigan Sen. Carl Levin, the Senate Armed Service Committee chairman, took issue with an effort by Majority Leader Harry Reid to cut off money for the war next year as a way to end U.S. involvement.  "We're not going to vote to cut funding, period," Levin said. "But what we should do, and we're going to do, is continue to press this president to put some pressure on the Iraqi leaders to reach a political settlement."

Spineless suckers, just give away hard-won ground and advocate your nerfball pressure - yeah, the Assministration is going to cave to that.  We will never win this war, so what difference does it make when we call it a draw and retreat with some of our lives and honor intact?

Jesus died on the cross for our chocolate.  Iraqis and Americans continue to die for our self-righteousness and quick buck.

Hey man, it's the fourth quarter, we're down by a few touchdowns, our quarterback is a head case, the coach is not known to do any planning, the crowd is booing, the other team is on our one yard line, first down, and there are only 3 minutes left in the game. And, you wanna quit? We are winners, man! Hey, go get me another beer, huh, I'm not quitting. Yay, home team, go, go, go!!

Maitri, your voice fits in perfectly here. Well said.

One step at a time. There was never any chance that the funding would be stopped. But the blame is being saddled where it should be. And if we lose another thousand lives, and because of those lives we never do anything like this again, those lives will not have been snuffed in vain.

unfortunately the crazee quaterback won't sit the rest of the game out. doesn't matter if the rest of the team gets injured.

your father's voice and the voice of reason is not appreciated here. nor is debate.
georgie is the 'decider'.

"and because of those lives we never do anything like this again, those lives will not have been snuffed in vain"

Can you pass me some of that KoolAid?

Also, Georgie is only the decider if we stop sitting on him and compromise with backroom handshakes.

Meanwhile, we rake Pelosi over the coals for diplomatically visiting Syria when human rights offenders are received in the Oval Office. So much we can call them on, so much that isn't thrown in their faces.

I'm late to the "Welcome aboard!" party, but I'm glad you're here, Maitri. I think you're gonna be a lot of fun.

I'm with you on Reid. Very disappointing. Assuming they pass the funding, they bloody well better pass a whole series of bills requiring a pull-out. Make him veto one a week. Keep reminding everybody whose fault all of this is.
