New Orleans crime blotter
After another senseless murder a NOPD official noted in response....
"I think people can take some comfort in knowing that it was a random act of violence," said Sgt. Joe Narcisse, and NOPD spokesman. "I think the residents will tell you that the neighborhood is pretty safe, it's rare to have crime in this neighborhood, especially violent crime."
Ah I don't think that is at all comforting, do you? Isn't the random violence exactly the problem?
------------------
Then there is this....
The Rev. Bill Terry of St. Anna's Episcopal Church at 1313 Esplande Ave. puts up the latest murder victims names, including the 100th victim Jeffery Tate, on a board in front of the church. Father Terry said church members also bring weekly one rose for each victim killed that week, to both the Mayor C. Ray Nagin's office and that of NOPD Supt. Warren Riley, Tuesday, July 3, 2007.
-------------------
Finally the continually inept DA's office had to drop "charges against a man accused of robbing and shooting rock 'n' roll legend Ray Davies in the Faubourg Marigny" because Davies didn't show for the trial. Though the trial date was set in May the prosecuter's office "sent word of the trial to Davies only a few days ago, asking him to come testify, according to the rock musician." Davies stated it was just too short of notice to come to NOLA from London.
Thus today's video: The Kinks-Celluloid Heroes....
And despite the crime I would not hesitate to visit New Orleans....or live there.

"a man accused of robbing and shooting rock 'n' roll legend Ray Davies in the Faubourg Marigny"
That's got to hurt.
