Department of Here We Go Again, Vol. 367

I don't know how much easier they can make it for us. Seriously. Fuck it. Fuck this falling YET AGAIN for their trick of taking the most extreme example of anything said by anyone nominally on our side and running around shouting about how we need to denounce it while their literal hired mouthpieces call for cutting off journalists' heads. Fuck this taking it one more time. Fuck this playing the game on their terms. AGAIN. Do they have to come to your house and use kiddie blocks to spell it out before you realize that you are doing exactly what they want you to do? Take your hands off your junk for one second and try to imagine you live in a world where you still have some pride.

Okay, okay, quit laughing, I was just kidding. I'll settle for you no longer telling me what I should and should not tolerate being said in my name. Do you know what's been done in my name? In the past three days alone, while Petraeus was running around making sure everybody in Congress loved him and his preznit, do you know what's been done? While Lisa Murkowski was autowittering on about how much we all needed to respect Petraeus personally, as if that was the problem, that we just didn't love him enough, as if this was marriage counseling. As if he forgot to bring us flowers or give us a birthday blowjob. I don't mean to be gross, but come the fuck on, did you hear that shit? Between her and Duncan Hunter, I don't know who was more slobberingly pathetic in their desire to make this whole hearing about Petraeus's reputation, as if that had anything to do with anything. As if, if Petraeus was perfect, Iraq would be perfect, too. As if that bought us anything more than an empty sack.

And the moronic fuck brigade just keeps falling for it. They keep thinking that if what they do is, they go out there and denounce MoveOn, and that'll make it okay, right? That'll prove to the world that they're better than somebody else and that's enough, right? That's enough to get them into the club, get them on the letterhead, get them to pet you a bit before sticking it in. That's enough. It would be sad if it wasn't so destructive, if it wasn't so insidious, and you know, I feel bad for you the first time you lie to yourself enough to convince yourself somebody odious loves you. Around the 243rd time, I stop getting involved because honestly, at that point, there's nothing I could say you can't rationalize away. And we're at that point with some of these so-called Democrats, we really are.

Guess what? THEY HATE YOU. No matter what you denounce or don't denounce. No matter what you say or don't say. It's not about you at all, you see, you snivelling, principle-free hacks. It's not even remotely about you, so just drop your narcissisistic shitbag thing where you think that by making the rest of us uncouth Democrats smaller you make yourself bigger. We all look the same to them. And if you're not a Republican, I don't care what else you call yourself, a Moose or what have you. If you're not with them, remember, you're against them, so if you wanna eat weenies at their party, that's who you are. You step out of line, and if you think your gestures to their points of view buy you any more slack than the DFH's get, you're so advanced in lying to yourself you get 45 automatic college credits in it.

And it isn't that I don't know it's a self-serving dodge, really, a way of positioning yourself as a pundit to peddle your greedy mirror-kissing bullshit to anybody who'll buy. It's not so much that I really think the Moose and his girl here are going to wake up one day, read this and say, "You know, I really have been acting a total prat all these years, and I so repent of that shit. I'm sorry, I have seen the light now." I don't so much worry about them as worry about the people I know who see their so-called independent horseshit and think, "Yeah, man, both parties suck, and are to blame for my intellectual laziness and inability to fight for what I care about. I think I'll go sit with them at their lunch table and lob spitballs at the slow kids."

Because when you're as dumb as a box of rocks, and are willing to listen to other people telling you what to think and what to denounce to prove some empty point, you're just as likely to end up with these doofi as you are with the wingnut crowd and honestly, I can't say which is worse at this point. They both end us up in the same place. At least the wingnuts end up there under their own power, with comparatively few rope burns on their limbs.

Schmucks.

A.

i never felt the need to respect colon bowell, so, why should i respect a standard issue republikkkan general?

ESPECIALLY AS HE IS COVERING FOR THE WORST PRESIDENT EVER???

Tell us how you really feel...

What pissed me off was how Obama and the rest of the Dem's played along with the whole decorum bit and bent over backwards to thank Gen'rul Betray-us for his excellent service etc. etc. -- WTF? Why do they think they have to play nice because they're on the Hill wearing a tie and he's in uniform and there are cameras rolling? I don't want to hear Obama tell me afterwards that he's really skeptical and critical etc. If he (or Hillary, for that matter) wants my respect as potential candidates they should've told Betray-us to his face in public what they thought of him and his dismal performance as official clusterfucker supreme, not kiss ass and play nice and then try to tell the disappointed public otherwise. We've been spun often enough by the clowns in power, we don't want the same shit from the replacements.

But all we got was niceties and a few questions with blunt edges, and the circus can go on forever. Next, Bush will get his $50bn and change to keep things going for a few more FUs and then he can ride off into the sunset with his cronies...

Here is the other thing that just kills me.

We raise the troop level by 30,000 then we announce we will withdraw 30k (but only if we are winning)

Let's say my product costs $100. I'm going to raise the price to $150 dollars before my sale.

This week we have a 50 dollar off Sale!!

Gee I'm so excited I saved 50 dollars!

I love this denouncing shit. They don't bother do denounce ANYTHING or anyone on their side no matter HOW foul they are. Sean Hannity won't distance himself from Ann Coulter or Ted Nugent who talk about killing politicians. Because there are no consequences for NOT denouncing on the right, but there are for denouncing.

I'm going to use this little denouncing strategy game on them because I KNOW that they won't denounce. Of course THEY OWN them.

I love this denouncing shit. They don't bother do denounce ANYTHING or anyone on their side no matter HOW foul they are.

They don't have to. The only reason to "denounce" someone is because they crossed the line: they offended someone or hurt their feelings.

People on the right will never, ever face this problem for one of two reasons:

1) They don't have a line. By definition, anything they do is good and legal and honest and right because they think God is on their side. When the refs are for you, no call can be against you.

2) They don't care if they offended you or hurt you feelings. They enjoy it. They get off on it. They are nothing more than playground bullies writ large, poisonous psychopaths who rightly should be ostracized or shunned or shamed.

The megaphone-holders on the right will fall into one of these two categories. Right now, unfortunately, group 2 is in charge, and they manipulate group 1 like a sym or an avatar. And they get off on manipulating their toadies just as much as they get off on hurting you, so they are never, ever going to stop.

And the hard core, committed members of group 1 just can't see what's going on: they are incapable of seeing the contradictions, the hypocrisy, the nastiness, the greed--and if you try to open their eyes, they will turn on you with all that pent-up anger and frustration from all those years of psychological abuse by group 2.

They can't break of out the frame of "Us right, Them wrong" because then they will actually have to examine their own actions and question their "faith" or their "religion" or their "tribal identity." Some of them can't do that because they're scared or guilty or whatever. Others can't do it because their brains physically can't fire that way.

Others (probably the biggest percentage) can't do it because they are toadies: they wish they were members of group 2 but don't have the courage or confidence to actually risk bullying someone, so they stand behind the bully and snicker and laugh and repeat the slurs and insults from a safe distance, or sneak in a kick when the victim is already down.

Anyone who is still supporting this administration is a lost cause. Full stop.

You can't debate them, you can't convince them, you can't appeal to them, you can't bribe them...you just can't. Any members of group 1 will need years of therapy or some life-altering event before they can actually open their eyes and see the contradictions they live with. (If Katrina didn't startle their eyes open, odds are really low that it's going to happen on its own.)

After that, it will probably take another few years for them to actually change their path instead of just switch allegiance to another religion or god or tribe. If you're not a trained mental health professional, you're wasting your time and energy on people who are beyond your ability to help.

Group 2 is the real problem. If they were not currently in charge, Group 1 wouldn't cause any trouble, and there may even be circumstances where Group 1 could be (coincidently) helpful.

Any members of group 2 need to be removed from any position where they could possibly influence anything you do. They need to be kept at 10-foot-pole range, need to be ignored, isolated, marginalized. Oh, sure, they may act like you've convinced them and pretend they have seen your point, but--and this is the most important point--you do not want to have a member of group 2 on your side. Never, under any circumstances.

Because they will turn on you the instant it suits them. They will stab you in the back. They will unstring your knees, and you will fall in the dust with your armor clattering about you. Then they'll giggle and finish jerking off as your lifeless body finishes twitching. And then they'll move on to their next prey.

EXCELLENT analysis! Well said.
Have you read Dean's book, Conservatives without conscious? He has some research to back up your points.

Have you read Dean's book, Conservatives without conscious? He has some research to back up your points.

I've read excerpts, but not the whole thing. Athenae's previous posts about bullies make much the same points.

Honestly, I'd love more campaigns to hire psychologists instead of or along with marketing people.

The same psychologists who are helping torture detainees around the world? And dithering about what is torture and what is not? Those psychologists?

Forgive me if this isn't a MoveOn - BetrayUs post, but I agree with your points.

I just wish we had the kind of leadership that was smart enough to understand the rules of the game, and who didn't hand the knuckledraggers their talking points in 60-pt headline type.

It's one thing when bloggers vent, and I most certainly do. It's another when people paid to think these thing through do it in a full-page NYTimes ad.
