...the Canadian dollar is up to 96 cents against the US dollar?!??11? When they start sneering at us about the exchange rate, it will be, at long last, time to flee the country...

but but but they keep saying it's not a recession.

did somebody say stagflation?

Uh oh. . .time for more tax cuts for the rich!

but but but they keep saying it's not a recession.

Actually, an unscientific poll of the NYTs and WSJs being fluttered around in the NYC subway leads me to believe that noises are being made towards the 'R word'...

Grumpy Forester: I don't know. 5 years ago I almost accepted a job in Canada. If I had transferred my retirement funds to Canada then, I would be riding high. Now that the Canadian is up to 0.96 on the dollar, transferring now would be the equivalent of buying high and selling low.

Who would have guessed that Shrub would get a second term ????

Hello, Canadian here, and cranky to boot today...

You know, there was a time when the Canadian dollar was worth $1.05US. My mother, who used to do a lot of cross-border shopping in those days, remembers it well.

If the Canadian economy weren't artificially micromanaged by a bunch of neoconservative economists who set central bank policies and have an almost obscene devotion to keeping Canada's economy subservient and shackled to the US', the Canadian dollar might be worth $1.25US now. In real economic terms, we're doing obscenely well here right now.

We'd probably be doing less trade with you folks, and more with the Pacific Rim and Europe, but I'm failing to see how that could possibly be a bad thing, all things considered.

As usual, the Republicans hold a Party and leave the bill for the Democrats, middle class and poor to pay off. Typical.
