Awesome
From Streetblogs:
...this video of an automated underground bike garage at a Tokyo commuter train station. For a single-use fee of 100 yen (about $1) or 1,800 yen for a monthly pass, customers roll their bikes onto a platform and use a control panel to have them whisked away to a rack within the 9,400 spot facility. The video shows that it takes the system 23 seconds to retrieve the reporter's bike.

scout - welcome to the world of intelligent transit alternatives (^-^)

That thing totally kicks ass.
OT: Scout - I was thinking of getting back into the habit of using a bike to commute to work (I used to do it about 10 years and 15 pounds ago). Do you have any recommendations on what to ride? I used to have a cyclocross bike that was very kickass but I don't think that is the route to go getting back into the swing of things. Any ideas on what kind of bike to get for mostly flat city riding?

joejoejoe:
In case you come back; my name isn't Scout, but I can weigh in on bikes for commuting. A cyclocross WOULD make a kickass commuter--you just need to trick it out for commuting, as in get fenders (there are some very nice light ones floating around out there), get a rack for a trunk or panniers and get lights. Front and back, nice and bright. Several of the manufacturers are now making great commuter bikes--I know that KHS has a couple of great commuters already tricked out and so does Schwinn and Bianchi, believe it or not.
Congratulations on getting back into bike commuting! You'll love it!

joejoejoe...I'd agree with mothra. My winter commuter is a cyclocross bike. I have a very bad back and neck so all my bikes have upright handlebars. I use the Nitto Albatross bar which you can basically only get at Rivendell online. Just about any bike can get set up how you like with work and of course money.
Email if you like

Mothra - Thanks.
Scout - I'll check out those upright handlebars and email you when I get closer to purchase. I appreciate the help :)
