WI Governor asks FEMA for more help

Governor Doyle met with FEMA head David Paulison yesterday:

He says he asked Paulison to have FEMA reimburse local governments up to 90% of their costs for repairing damage to public facilities. FEMA already has agreed to reimburse local governments up to 75% of those expenses.

The governor also asked Paulison to skip inspecting 89 homes still underwater and declare them eligible for buyout.

Yes there are still homes underwater and FEMA will not inspect them until the water recedes and that could take months ......

"I've put up with this for a month. Nobody's done anything," said one homeowner.   "This water's going to be here in January. These homes will never be open," said Gene Dischler.

After the 1993 floods which also hit the Prairie View community, the water didn't recede until November. "This flood is 500 times worse," said Dischler.

FEMA's top officer in WI "admitted FEMA has never dealt with this situation before."

At least... not since the 90's.

does the A in FEMA stand for Absurd?

might be for assholes. M is for miserable. E for every, F for fucking. but i am sure there has to be some clinton holdovers or non busies....oh, who am i kidding. only mass bushies could be this bad.

I want to go ballistic at the statement that FEMA has never dealt with this before.

While FEMA wasn't organized until 9/11, their predecessor saw many a flood. They were around in the floods of 93.

So either FEMA doesn't look to much at history (absurd) or the statement was a really bad dodge to deflect blame.

Of course, there is the possibility that Bush got rid of the high ranking career folks and stuffed the positions with cronies.

Maplestreet - FEMA has been around since well before 9/11. I remember FEMA at least as far back as 1991.

You're thinking of when FEMA was dis-organized after 9/11 when it was rolled under Homeland Security after which time the Director of FEMA no longer reported directly to the President.

No accident there, this administration believes in bootstraps, and they are not interested in helping you find them. Fend for yourself, it's the conservative way.
