I mean, it's not like they're alternately being insulted and condescended to as a group. Ever:
For instance, inequality is driven in part by low-skilled immigration: it nudges wages downward for native workers, and the immigrants themselves are taking longer to achieve upward mobility than earlier generations did.
But today’s Democrats, bent on consolidating the Hispanic vote, aren’t likely to seek a lower immigration rate, or a better-educated pool of immigrants. The kind of “comprehensive” immigration reform that liberals support would probably increase low-skilled migration to the United States.
You know, if this is the new Republican pro-Hispanic talking point — You're too stupid to vote Republican — I really can't wait for 2010 because Republicans will have officially become the Aryan Nation. They're already on their way, but certainly nobody's stopping it by making coherent, respectful, interesting appeals to other constituencies anymore.
And I love how the only presumed motivation for Democrats to improve our immigration processes in this country is to consolidate the Hispanic vote. As if that's something Republicans were never interested in before the bigots took over.

On the other hand, the Republicans still control all three branches of government, and will do so for the foreseeable future. So they must be doing something right.

I can't wait for Douthat to realize that by disclaiming all responsibility for the disaster the Republicans created, he's making it easier for the Dem's to not allow any credit to rain down upon his chosen party when the recovery takes hold.
Ah well, with Kristol, Douthat, Beck and the rest of the crazies leading the way, the final stop for the conservatives will likely be hell. We'll have to talk very nicely to Satan for him to keep them.

I wish the sane-ish Ross Douthat who used to work at The Atlantic was still around to call bullshit on this batshit insane-ass partisan who has been unleashed by the New York Times.
