According to David Plouffe's book, the Edwards campaign tried to cut a deal during the primaries: withdrawal in exchange for an endorsement and the Veep nod. It seems that the same offer was made to the Clintonistas. Imagine the meltdown at the convention if anyone had taken the deal. Sheesh, whew and yikes.
