Good morning everyone! Well, since apparently people can't remember back any further than a year ago, the Repubs are doing well in all the Rasmussen polls (imagine that!) and teabaggy hope and change is in the air for them. What could possibly go wrong?
Well, as none other than Dennis Miller once opined, they're beginning to knife each other over the length of their crew cuts. RINO, RINO, who's got the RINO?
Well, for starters - It's General Betray-us!!
Petraeus calls gunscope inscriptions "disturbing"

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. General David Petraeus said on Thursday it was "disturbing" that a manufacturer had embossed biblical citations on rifle scopes sent to Afghanistan and Iraq, and the firm announced it would voluntarily halt the practice.
"This is a big concern to the Army and the Marine Corps, who have contracted for these particular sites," said Petraeus, the head of U.S. Central Command, noting the religious sensitivities American forces face in the two Muslim countries.
"This is of serious concern to me and to the other commanders in Iraq and Afghanistan because, indeed, it conveys a perception that is absolutely contrary to what it is that we have sought to do," Petraeus told a forum at the Center for Strategic and International Studies.
"It is disturbing to us, frankly, that this was done," he added.
President Barack Obama has sought to convince the Muslim world that the U.S. fight against al Qaeda militants should not be viewed as a war against Islam.
Former President George W. Bush heightened those concerns shortly after the September 11, 2001, attacks on New York and Washington when he referred to his war on terrorism as a "crusade," a remark critics warned raised images of Christian knights attacking Muslim cities during the Middle Ages.

Sir, I believe you just called the Commander of CENTCOM an idiot.
At least you didn't call him a retard.
To: Free ThinkerNYEtu General?
Yes - him, too.
One would think you would have much more on your mind in dealing with an enemy bent upon the death and destruction of all we stand for, including freedom of speech, than to even comment on such a trivial matter.
WTF are we coming to?

Damn!
Just Damn!!!!

To: Free ThinkerNYThis is bullshit. Petraeus should know better. He's joining the argument on the wrong side. This is Political Correctness run amok.
Frankly, it's also must be offensive to God as well. There once was a time when when we wanted Him on our side and honored Him. If our Founding Fathers were still around, they would probably grab their muskets off the wall and head out to stop this madness. And they would probably take their Bibles with them as well.
Maybe we should take IN GOD WE TRUST off our coinage as well just to please CAIR and the God-hating pantywaists that infest this country,... and I hate to say it,... our "Defense" Department, too?

To: Free ThinkerNYReading the thread I’m struck by two things.
First, the general lack of understanding and misuse of the concept “Politically Correct”. Pleasing western PC sensibilities isn’t the issue. Dealing with the culture in foreign lands we are fighting is what we are attempting.
Second, the eagerness and gusto that FR employs to throw the General under the bus. A man who was nearly worshiped just a year ago. The man many wanted for president. Nobody wanting to give him even the smallest benefit of the doubt as an expert on what is needed to fight our wars in Islamic territories, and what might hinder our efforts and unnecessarily endanger US troops.
I hope the General isn’t crowding Sarah Palin under that bus, where so many consigned her yesterday.
Could it be this?

Palin announced late Thursday that she would attend SRLC, joining Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty, Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal and former Arkansas governor Mike Huckabee as announced speakers. Interestingly, Palin also announced on Thursday that she would not be speaking at CPAC, a gathering of conservatives in Washington in mid February -- a decision, according to those familiar with her thinking, due at least in part to the fact that the John Birch Society is one of the sponsors

To: BigtigermikeI bothered to study the JBS several years ago. Of course, John Birch was a hero that died fighting communists, but the organization that bears his name is in no way connected to him other than they both hate commies. I couldn't find anything wrong, frankly with the JBS. Some of their claims seemed a bit on the wild side, but I saw no harm in their claims. The Dems make more outrageous and wild claims every day. I've never joined or given money the the JBS, but they are far closer to my views than the Republican party.

To: Funee KatSo what’s up with the John Birch Society these days? Seems like they’ve been keeping a low profile for some time, but lately I keep seeing their name pop up here and there. As I remember them from some years back, they never would have associated themselves with the mainstream political class, even if they were conservatives. In any case, I don’t see why Sarah Palin would have a problem with them, unless she is concerned that the media will try to typecast her as a conspiracy nut.I was a member of the Birch Society from 1977 to 1981. They are bad news.
You're Jewish and you were a Bircher???
I knew that Repubs specialize in cognitive dissonance, but just - DAMN!
They serve as the "blue lodge" and recruiting point for the anti-Semitic movement. They indoctrinate recruits into anti-Semitism with the word "Jews" removed ("the Conspiracy"), and eventually the recruit makes the connection and becomes a Jew-hating loon.
They are also unapologetic pre-WWII right wingers. While they were all for American "interference" against Communism in most parts of the world, they were opposed to America helping Israel against its own Communist threat because "both sides" were allegedly run by "the Conspiracy" (how convenient!). Furthermore, while they were all for the draft in the Sixties (they rejected the anti-draft ideology as "libertarian" rather than conservative) but now that we're fighting moslems they're suddenly against the draft--and writing articles on how bad the draft was in WWII (another "Jewish" war).
For the record, I am also opposed to a military draft, but I am so consistently--unlike the JBS.

Obama slays Repubs in Fox News poll

A new Fox News poll has President Obama losing in 2012 to a generic Republican candidate -- but mostly stomping a few big-name Republicans. Which leads one to wonder -- who is this generic Republican who could beat him?
According to the poll, Obama beats Mitt Romney, 47 percent to 35 percent, defeats Sarah Palin, 55 percent to 31 percent, and makes a quick business of Newt Gingrich, 53 percent to 29 percent. What, no Santorum?
Generically, Obama loses to an unnamed Republican, 43 percent to 47 percent.
Further: 43 percent of Americans say they would vote to re-elect Barack Obama if the 2012 election were held today, which is unchanged from October, yet is down from 52 percent who said they would re-elect him in April.
All in all, 47 percent of Americans say they would vote for someone else rather than re-electing President Obama, up from 31 percent in April.
Moreover, the number saying they would "definitely" vote to re-elect Obama has declined -- going from 37 percent in April to 26 percent in October to 23 percent in the new poll.

Glenn Beck Destroys Scott Brown: “This One Could End With A Dead Intern”
Mediaite ^ | 1-20-10
Posted on Wednesday, January 20, 2010 12:58:31 PM by My Favorite Headache
You won’t see TV Glenn Beck touch the things that Radio Glenn Beck sometimes says, as he edges toward Howard Stern levels of comedy and tone.
Today he absolutely obliterated Scott Brown over the ‘my daughters are available’ comment, going so far as to suggest Brown could be a secret pervert.
Brown got over-excited and particularly creepy when he declared his daughters “available” during an improvised portion of his victory speech tonight. It was awkward – and it wasn’t immediately cleaned up.
“Bad enough,” said Beck after he played the initial comment. “Hey my two daughters on the meat market!”
If he had made the comment, said Beck, his daughters would “never have spoken to me again,” and his wife? “Collection of my parts in drawers scattered throughout my house.”
After Beck played more of the clip, making his own commentary throughout (including a reference to the infamous Cosmo spread), he took the whole thing to the next level. “I want a chastity belt on this man,” he said, while his producer tried to justify Brown’s comments. “I want his every move watched in Washington. I don’t trust this guy…This one could end with a dead intern. I’m just saying, it could end with a dead intern.”
Classic. The whole conversation ends with Beck issues some well-wishes to Brown. “Congratulations, let’s monitor him,” he said.
Maybe Beck will be Keith Olbermann’s Best Person In The World tonight!

Re Biblical Citations on gun scopes: Even if we weren't using these in the Middle East and are trying to convince Muslims we aren't in a war against them I would still be upset by the practice. After all, wasn't the Christ's message about peace and being at peace with the world, other people and therefore God. Gun scopes and the guns they are on are meant to be used to hurt and kill people. Not exactly Christian, I'd say.

The idea to put references to bible verses on the gun scopes was idiotic because it reinforces the idea that US forces are Crusaders in the Middle East, intent on attacking Islam. This provides further anti-US propaganda and aids the recruitment of current and future jihadis to attack the US. Of course if you're in the business of selling military equipment, promoting endless war is simply good business.
