Why not spend the money in the North East where it would be appreciated? Oh, wait. They have a dumb motherfucker in New Jersey, too.

Ha!. This part of the northeast (Massachusetts, the happy and gay marriage state) can also use the money, and we'll happily take it and spend it.

Electing morons has consequences.

Having once lived just down the street (300 block of W. Wilson)...geez, he IS a dumb motherfucker.

A centrally located station would be good for downtown, the line itself would good for BOTH cities and whatever stops were in between, it would create jobs, temporary (construction) and permanent (not just rail employees, but things like restaurants/bars in or around the depots)...and it wouldn't cost the State anything?

Even IF you could trade it for roads, that just leads to...more traffic, more pollution, more wrecks, you name it.

Dumb. Dumb motherfucker. Yep, you got that right.

You're photo is wrong. You have people standing outside. The Wisconsin train wouldn't have people outside of it since nobody would ride it. In addition, you're numbers are incorrect. The state's share of the cost to operate, maintain and subsidize the train after nobody rides it would be, wait for it, 100%.

"If Walker decides to scrap the project, the state would have to pay the money back to DC. So much for fiscal fucking responsibility, huh?"

That's the dumbest thing I've ever heard. You act like he can plug a budget hole with the money. He's giving it back becasue it will create a larger budget hole from the cost to subsidize the operation.

You're a moron if you think any government money is "free" money. Somebody had to pay for it.

The only dumb motherfucker I see is, you, dumb motherfucker.

JZ just echoed ANOTHER dumb motherfucker, Piyush "Bobby" Jindal.

JZ = troll, and a suckass, dumb motherfucker representative of trolldom to be true.

STFU, JZ.

That opening paragraph was brilliant, mon ami. It was almost as awesome as Della Street.

where is the duh? he is a republikkklan. choochoos are wasteful to them. cars are way better. mass transit is SOCIALIST!!!!!!!!1111!!!!

"You're [sic] photo is wrong."

No, your sentence is wrong. "Your," not "you're."

You're also wrong about people not riding trains. Maybe you wouldn't, but don't assume you speak for everyone, JZ.

JZ is apparently only partly wrong (and maybe not at all) when he says "The state's share of the cost to operate, maintain and subsidize the train ... would be ... 100%."

According to this article from the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel, "Even with the federal government picking up the line's full construction cost, Walker has said he doesn't want state taxpayers to pay operating costs, projected at $7.5 million a year, starting in 2013. A state transportation official has said state taxpayers' share could be as little as $750,000 a year, if federal aid covers 90% of operating costs, as it does for Amtrak's existing Milwaukee-to-Chicago Hiawatha line."

http://www.jsonline.com/news/wisconsin/106705698.html

We'd ride it -- hell, we'd move back to the US if I could live and work in Chicago, while my husband works in Milwaukee. Right now, we are in Europe -- where the trains are awesome and getting more awesome! And they are FULL of people, JZ -- and the stations and surrounding areas are hopping with lots and lots of business! Really. My husband has gone from London to Paris twice this week on day trips for work. He will soon be able to take high speed trains to Germany for work. Trains are good for business. Period.

I was hoping someone would mention the operating costs. Why yes, the state would have to pay to run the train. Even if the state's on the hook for all $7.5 million per year, what's the problem there? To return to the free money thing, that's like turning down a free wad of hundred dollar bills because accepting them means you'd have to go buy a fucking wallet.

Sweet christ, are the fucking roads here maintenance-free? Are there any fucking operating costs associated with those? What about other things, like unpriced externalities? Traffic, pollution, gas, parking, and maintenance--do those not have costs?

We spend a LOT more than $7.5 million per year on roads, buddy. It's not like this thing exists in a vacuum.

As someone who travels a lot between northern Ohio and various destinations in Chicago and Wisconsin, I would welcome commuter rail in that area, especially if the state doesn't have to put forth the overwhelming Capital Expenditure and only the Operating Costs. Does "you're" brain comprehend those terms?

I shudder to remember that snowy Christmas when we got to Chicago on Amtrak, Enterprise gave away our rental car to someone else, all other rental car places were sold out and we had to take the Van Galder bus from Chicago to Madison, then hop in a pricey cab to the rental car place there. Having traveled (with a crapload of baggage and very little time) in Europe and California, a train system like theirs would ease our current woes. And don't even talk to me about "commuting" between Madison and Milwaukee on 94. It's the Oregon Trail during peak traffic.

"put the moron icing on the dumbfuck cake".
Nice.

Aaaaand, let's not forget that our fabulous new senator has promised to work with Scott to kill this.
Apparently the 200,000 jobs that Scott has promised to create do not include these.

Drunken Hausfrau: Well, remember that Europe is full of socialists and WE CANNOT HAVE SOCIALISM IN THE UNITED STATES, even if it would make life better. Because, you know, Socialism is bad.

Sure, its gonna cost money, but tell me, what in life doesn't? This project will create jobs for many people, both temp and perm. Just seems that way to many people are "short sighted", they can't see the long term benefits, less wear & tear and congestion on the current roads, cleaner air, fewer officers needed to patrol for idiots. So to all those who would rather have the roads repaired, I've got a plan... Lets raise the money to repair the roads, bridges and pay for all the cops needed to keep the roads safe by raising the fees to drive! Drivers License, License for cars/trucks, Gas tax. Might as well as create a new "personal vehicle pollution tax" and have tolls too! oh wait, then you'll all be screaming for a train!

the democrats said R meant reverse. and so they are.

Maybe the dumbest blog I've ever read! Stupid idiots who want to pump $800+ million into a a high speed train that has to make three or four stops between Milwaukee & Madison. It would be fates, and cheaper to drive. Not to mention, who the hell is going to ride that train? Get real! Stupid Angry Liberals!

"not to mention, who the hell is going to ride that train?"... I for one would ride that train, and I'm sure that there are hundreds if not thousands of others who would as well. People who give a damn about the environment will ride that train! People who don't own a vehicle will ride that Train! People who don't want to pay high prices for fuel and/or parking will ride that Train! People who don't want the worry of being killed by a drunk on the highway will ride that train! People who want to relax will ride that train! Intelligent people will ride that train! I would even bet "Keith Olbermann's ASS" will ride that train, but only after pulling his head out so he can sit down.

But, yuh see, he "cut down on wasteful federal spending," just like a good Republican should. That's all that matters.

The fact that it's the epitome of stupidity and that "more roads" will simply make things WORSE re pollution and traffic congestion (I know, I'm from California) is beside the point.

And Ohio has a new dumb ass now too. Trains are now partisan. What idiocy.

Is Scott Walker stupid, racist or in the pocket of a paving company?
Serious investigative reporting is needed here. Something is rotten in Milwaukee...

In support of cancellation of the train from Madison to Milwaukee, Walker claims the project would cost $7.5 million in annual deficit. Yet, backing out at this time will cost $100 million. And say goodbye to 1400 jobs and the defection of numerous manufacturing companies. If you think about it, the hotel tax revenues for added tourism would pay for the so-called operating deficit.

Does not make any sense, when the USDOT is clear that Wisconsin cannot use train funds for road projects.

So is Walker under pressure to restrict travel to Madison by lower income and African Americans?

Or is he under pressure by campaign contributors from oil, auto and paving interests?

Without a clear idea of who and what is driving his decision making, the numbers just don't add up!

Um...something I wish everyone would understand...yes the INITIAL $810 million would come from federal stimulus money (which we do pay for in taxes...not like Obama's coughing it up)...but the millions it will take per year after that to maintain it??? Oh...that's right...the "good people of Wisconsin" get that bill...since we will have to supplement whatever the train doesn't make on people using the train (and no one will use it!!!). We aren't losing as many jobs if we pull out since Talgo just went on local Milwaukee news and specifically said they are building trains for other projects and have no plans to leave Milwaukee!

And anyone who says that Walker is a racist simply because we cannot afford the train should apply himself to the first comment made in this blog...you are a dumb mother$#&%!

Thank you for this article re: dumb as fuck Scott Walker. His stupid followers keep saying that the money is not free =it must have come from somewhere, meaning they think if they turn it down they will somehow get the tax dollars back in their pockets. Little do they realize that it has already been collected and earmarked for high speed rail. I just moved to WI a year ago and am just blown away at the hillbilly stupidity. You think that politics just changed because you elected a couple of uneducated hicks? You think earmarks are going away? The only losers are you Walker voters, the ones that pay taxes and then when it is time to reap the benefits turn it away. They keep saying it is only 125 jobs, how dumb are these people? God help us all! They complain about 7 million in yearly maintenance, yet the benefits and jobs and development would outweigh that amount in spades. Stupid Stupid Stupid. I don't think Republicans used to be this stupid, we have entered a new era my friends. The era of Republicans with feelings, depending on simplistic slogans and ideas and not factual analysis. God help us all.
