Wouldn't one of the major difference - if not THE major difference - be that the student paper is free while the 'local commercial newspaper' is gonna cost $.50 or $.75 etc?

Somebody wants to give me a copy of the LA Times or Wis State Journal every day, I'll be happy to pick it up.

I don't remind repeating myself on this. I'm in a small town in NE Missouri ( population of the county is around 15,000). There is a local newspaper. There is also a newspaper at the local state college. The University newspaper, while only weekly, does a much more thorough job of covering local news (as opposed to copying from the wire services). It also does a far superior job of interviewing those involved in local issues and actually doing reporting (in contrast, the local TV News has a "fact finder" segment where they "go the extra mile" which translates to actually picking up the phone and asking a city or county official a question).

I've tried to pay them to subscribe to the student run newspaper, but they won't let me. So I continue to pick it up at the grocery store where they put it out each week.

Our campus newspaper announced last spring it would go exclusively digital. This fall? There it was again in print every Wednesday.

The idea that a Local Paper should cover Local News with Local Reporters means that somewhere an executive might have to have a zero off his bonus.

What kind of commie America-hating crap is that??

SHAVE a zero.

Rats.
