Rick Perry's 'truly bizarre' speech: Was he drunk?
TheWeek.com ^ | October 31, 2011 | TheWeekPosted on Tuesday, November 01, 2011 4:56:27 AM by iowamark
Texas Gov. Rick Perry raised some eyebrows — and questions about his sobriety — with an unusually expressive speech to a conservative group in Manchester, N.H., on Friday. In the speech, Perry ditched his typically reserved style and instead employed "the sort of tics, facial contortions, mimes, and muggings that one would expect from a comic performer," says Thomas Lane at Talking Points Memo. The media scuttlebutt is largely based on an anonymously posted YouTube compilation of "highlights" from the speech (watch the clip below), but even some in attendance were perplexed. "It was different," Manchester Mayor Ted Gatsas said. Another GOP operative said it reminded him of Democrat Howard Dean's race-ending "scream" in 2004. Perry's campaign's response? The speech simply proves that Perry is "passionate about the issues he talks about."
The reaction: Perry's performance was "truly bizarre," says Libby Spencer at The Impolitic. "He comes off as pretty well drunk. Or drugged." Yes, and though it's not a crime to be "pretty publicly lit," it's almost certainly bad politics for a presidential hopeful, says Andrew Sullivan at The Daily Beast. Well, I doubt he's drunk, says Josh Feldman at Mediaite. But his exuberance is "fun to watch." I bet "Alec Baldwin will appreciate the material for his next Perry impersonation. Look, "we're not saying that he's definitely drunk," says Max Read at Gawker, "we're just saying, watch the whole thing" and judge for yourself. Have a look:
To: iowamarkPerry is a drunk, happens to a lot of boys living with alpha females. Poor thing.2 posted on Tuesday, November 01, 2011 5:02:33 AM by org.whodat (Just another heartless American, hated by Perry and his fellow demorats.)
To: iowamarkThat is the Obama media being cited there, the all lib&homo media there, so f’m.
To: iowamarkThe audience provided the uncomfortable, sympathetic laugh track. It was only missing circus music. After watching that, you could only hope he was drunk. If that's how he expresses "passion" for issues, as his campaign would have you believe, imagine the potential SOTU addresses.
BTW, it's probably not a good idea to invoke The Alamo and "victory or death" in a campaign. How'd that work out for those at The Alamo?
..To: iowamarkHe definitely looks drunk. His behavior and speech has been radically modified.

Since you don’t and aren’t, we’re left to conclude that your unconscionable vitriol is not simply the result of heated political rhetoric during primary season but is rather part of your character.

To: indylindyI didn’t think he was drunk either....but then I thought if he would have been drunk, he at least might have an excuse. LOLI don't believe he was drunk either. But if this is how he conducts himself when he is supposedly relaxed then heaven help us all should he ever be confronted with real life problems as a President, like a nuclear crazed despot from say, Pakistan and Iran talking about nuking Israel or even the US! His line then might be something like 'can't we all just get along' (and giggling all the while saying it).

In the Commonwealth of Virginia, the Senate is currently controlled by the democrats by two seats. It'll be an interesting night.

I'm in Cuyahoga County, and IF the City of Cleveland gets any kind of turnout, plus the Union fools who have no jobs (the Unions priced themselves out of the auto plant business here), but they still are PRO-UNION, even though they are un-employed, PLUS, every Teacher, Fireman, Policeman, and City, County, and State worker will vote NO....
The ONLY hope for passage of Issue 2 is that TAXPAYERS turn out heavily to the Polls.
What makes you think that teachers, firemen, policemen, and city, county, and state workers aren't taxpayers?
Did I miss a memo?
To: marstegregI just got back from voting at 4:00 and I was #360 at my polling place. Didn’t seem any crowded than usual. Did see one union smoker using the ash tube thingy outside the polling place door and I told him to get back from the entrance.
The weather is outstanding, so I expect a 30%-35% turnout; the BIGGER, the better for Passage.

To: RKBA DemocratThe VA GOP has one major problem ... age! I quit the county committee some years ago because as I looked around, the ‘young guys’ when I first joined all had gray hair .. no new young blood. And you just can’t do well in elections without young, new blood. They’re the ones who will walk door to door, do the lit drops, work the polls, etc. The old folks who’ve been doing it forever seem to like the committee meetings to get together with (literally) old friends. Nice, but that doesn’t win elections.
Something has to stir up the youth vote, but to most of the 20-somethings I know and see around here, “gay rights” is the civil rights of their generation, so they’re not about to vote for the GOP.
To: EDINVATrue. I tried to be friendly with the old folks at a Cantor booth who were complaining about no young people, and they froze me out when I wanted to talk about a few issues ... They’re in it for the chumminess, I think. They especially didn’t want to talk about the Tea Party...

Support Ohio’s Issue 2 and Kentucky’s Todd P’Pool Next Tuesday
by Sarah Palin on Friday, 04 November 2011 at 13:03Next Tuesday, November 8, there are elections in several states. Here are two great ways you can get involved.
OHIO’S ISSUE 2
As a proud former union member and the wife, daughter, and sister of union members, I’m encouraging you to learn the facts about Issue 2 in Ohio. To the hard working, patriotic, selfless union brothers and sisters in Ohio and throughout our country: I believe that Issue 2 is needed reform. It will help restore fairness to Ohio taxpayers and help balance the budget.
As a former card-carrying IBEW sister married to a proud former Laborers, IBEW, and later USW member, I’m encouraging Ohioans to vote YES on Issue 2. Get the facts at www.BetterOhio.org.
KENTUCKY’S TODD P’POOL FOR ATTORNEY GENERAL
Todd P’Pool is a new conservative leader for Kentucky. Todd is a dedicated public servant in Hopkins County and a community leader focused on building a better future for Kentucky. We can count on Todd P’Pool as Attorney General to stand up and defend our Constitution, to take on the entrenched special interests, fight against Obamacare, and stop Obama’s EPA from destroying jobs.
Please join me in supporting Todd P’Pool for Attorney General. Learn more about Todd at www.toddppool.com.

.
Austin Stangle We'd like to support YOU......
But you're a quitter.
Jenny Sanderson McKeigue Definitely voting yes on Issues 2 and 3. We voted for CHANGE last year when electing Kasich. We voted for solutions not the union-friendly Strickland. It's only been a year since the historic 2010 elections and the momentum of putting this great state on a better course will continue....with the passing of Issues 2 and 3.
So - how did that work out for ya? No shit? Sucks to be you.
Paul Huelsman @Jodie Brown thanks ive been watching out for sarah for awile as you will notice. I see this guy is gone. He might be lingering around. Liberals usually are they are taking names black listing us all to be harassed.

I'll get Soros right on it, you paranoid Palinista.
Public schools inforce a class warefare system i fell victim to it in my youth by answering questionare then refused a education because i was a hate mongering christian conservative. I was selected to fail as hard as i tried in until someone blew a wistle on liberal counselors intentionally ruining a childs education by if you take a count of children in basic courses or held back everyone is either christian or conservative or republican. Do the count they are still selecting children to fail purposely!
Needs moar home-schooling.
Justin Meadows Nope. Issue 2 is going down. You lose.
(But yes...please run!)
If only.
D.j. Albanese Seems like it has gone down in FLAMES! Bad loss.

Quang Do To the people who voted No on Ohio's Issue 2,
Congratulation.(sic)
You just SOLD OUT your state's and children's FUTURE to the
Obama/democrats/liberals/progressives/socialists/communists/Marxists.
You are now officially part of 'Occupy Wall Street' protesters.
Does that mean that I get to look around furtively for cameras, and then hit him in the gut with a nightstick?
Marlin Rice Issue 2 was sold out to the unions. A dark day for Ohio
Really? How much did they get for it?
Abdul Rahimov pls keep fighting for us, Governor!
Oh, by all means.
Are you sure I can't talk you into running, Saralicious?

Posted on Thursday, September 29, 2011 10:41:10 PM by Kevin in CaliforniaSo I'm driving home from work today (thank god I still have my job) and get behind a small red Honda with a "2012" sticker on the back window with the zero in the 2012 indicating the Obama logo. Trust me, I tried my hardest to get beside this vehicle and actullay did but very briefly as I had to watch the traffic and the stop and go's that come along with it. What I saw in that brief moment were 2 young morons sharing a box of cookies. It was then that I had to stop and their lane continued on ahead of me. I then glanced at their licence plate frame and noticed it said "UC Santa Cruz!" That pretty solidified the fact these were 2 Obama drones.
Sadly, all I wanted to do was help them by telling them some idiot had put an Obama sicker on their back window. LOL

I'll bet. You told that steelworker where to stick it. Sure, he was 6 feet tall with hands like baked hams, and he could kill people using only his neck, but you marched right up to him, slapped him with your glove, and said I CHALLENGE YOU SIR! and he started crying and ran away.

I am still laughing too hard at "almost pulled it off." I do love good college humor.
Thanks for the return, TT! I always find the losing of an election to be fascinating. Progressives skulk and wonder what happened. Conservatives immediately bring out 2 arguments:
1. Non-existent voter fraud and intimidation
2. Their special brand of elitism, manifested as absolute wonderment that a majority could disagree with them.
I am a Ohioan, and SB5 never stood a chance. Kasich was just like Walker, in that through the whole campaign he not once mentioned this as a goal. Then the fifth fucking bill on the docket ( behind privatization of an economic development team, 2 audit bills and a resolution to modernize insurance actuarial treatment of the pension fund ) is a bill to destroy collective bargaining rights. Before any jobs bills. Before any budget bills. Before anything of substance.
Ohioans reacted to that in a way I am proud of. The question remains how long our memory will be when he is up for re-election.
